seeking advice: starting a pipers club?

Dear collected wisdom and vast (or is that half vast?) experience:

I’ve been toying on and off with the idea of starting a pipers club in my area and wondered what the experience has been like for those of you who have pulled it off (actually, it might be helpful to hear from those who haven’t, too).

How did you start? Did your club begin informally and evolve into a regular meeting, or did it begin formally?

How often do you meet? How hard was it to agree on a meeting time and place?

Would you say there’s a minimum number of pipers you have to have interested to keep the thing going?

Do you bother collecting dues or suchlike?

If your club fizzled, why did it do so?

TIA for any input.

Cheers
KAD

Hey KAD,

Where abouts are you? Are there other pipers in your vacinity? All you need are two members and your off to a good start. The web really helps in getting the word out there.

Keep it fun. Have the meetings at one location on a set day each month and stick to it as well as you can.

Just do it!

Good luck,

Patrick.

Hi KAD,

When I first got into U-piping, I thought I was the only piper in my neck of the woods. I set-up a “club” web-page and soon after heard from other pipers both near and not so near that were interested in getting together. Our club now has 14 members.

We don’t get together as often as we should, but we’ve managed to have a handful of really decent get-togethers in various locations, mostly in the Montreal area.

I say go for it and good luck!
