Pandora.com is an internet radio that plays music that is supposedly musically similar to seed songs or artists you feed it, according to a long list of criteria. I fed it Lunasa and Danu, and it gives me a nice–but very limited–selection of trad. Some of the groups I tried aren’t on its list. Can someone who’s familiar with Pandora give me some ideas for trad seed music that a purist would like? Or maybe a link to your own station? Thanks.
I don’t really know how purist this is, but I listen to the Cottars on Pandora. They do a mix of traditional and some of the New Age Celtic stuff. You might be interested.
Thanks, yes. Pandora has one album by the Cottars. I do like them–only when I seeded my “station” with them, I ended up with a lot of angsty non-Irish vocal stuff that evidently matches whatever musical criteria fits those vocals.
I suppose there’s just not a lot of ITM on Pandora.
Try the Chieftains or Emerald Rose and be prepared to hit “I don’t like that song” a lot.
Alternatively, their are other internet radio sites that play exclusively Irish music.
