searching for teacher in Malmö, Sweden

Hi folks,
Although I’ve been playing the Highland Bagpipes for 6 years, I’m quite new to Uilleann Piping. I have a practice set from A. Rogge and I’m trying hard to make my way through some tutor books.

From the 24th or March to the 18th of June I will be in Malmö, Sweden, to study. Of course I would be very happy to find a piper there who can give me some advice and/ or tuition.

Does anyone live in/near Malmö/Alnarp/southern Skane (needs a ° above the a) or know anybody living there?

Cheers,
Phil

Jörgen Fischer is a great Uilleann piper and teacher in Malmö, who you might contact:

or Thomas Johnson in Lund:

There is also a Swedish UP list that you could advertise on, called Piping.se: “Traditionell irländsk musik och svenskt bordunspel”

And if you go further north into Norway, you could meet the Oslo Uilleann Pipers:

Hi Philipp!

Jörgen and Pär Kristoffersson are located in Helsingborg, a 40 min train ride from Malmö, Thomas is in Lund which is just 15 min from Malmö.

Get in contact with Pär and Thomas as both of them play pipes at sessions in Helsingborg, Lund and Malmö.
They will know what is going on

There is a biweekly session in Helsingborg (Pub Ro) and a monthly session in Lund (Bishops Arms).

And if you bring you highland pipes, these are your new friends in Malmö:

We are also planning for an Uilleann workshop in Stockholm in end of April.

Register on the swedish piping forum to get more information www.piping.se/phpBB2 (you can post in any language  )

Cheers for now!

Hi Philipp,

make also sure to attend a Tionol of the Deutsche Uilleann Pipes-Gesellschaft. They offer beginner’s and intermediate’s courses for the pipes three times a year. And the people are very helpful, so don’t necessarily have to attend a course to find someone who can show you some tricks.

Check http://www.dupg.de

Best,
Steffen

Hi,
thank you all very much for your advice. I’ve already contacted the Pipes and Drums, also Heather in Kopenhagen successfully and I’m looking forward to attend some rehearsals of the Griffin P&D. For the Uilleann Pipes, I’ll try the swedish forum soon.

Cheers, Phil
