Search Function and HTML Since Forum Upgrade

On the previous version of this Board, you could run a search, and it would bring up a list of posters whose posts had contained the words or string searched for. You could simply find that person’s post in the thread they had posted to. Now, when I run a search, it seems to give me nothing but a list of threads. Almost useless, in some cases.

Also, is HTML code disabled? My preferences are set to allow it, but it seems not to work.

I used HTML for this.

Will this work?

Hmmmmm…
Will this work?
I guess it doesn’t allow us to change the default font size.

However, it allows one to do bold and italic.

But it won’t underline.

There’s a limited set of tags. The previous forum had a vulnerability where you could put any HTML tags in your post – that means that one person could write Javascript in their post that would be executed on your computer when you read their post. Bad thing, all in all.

Right now, HTML is limited to the following tags (I just added ‘U’ and ‘STRIKEOUT’), a list I got from looking at a few major news+comment sites:

B, I, P, A, LI, OL, UL, EM, BR, TT, STRONG, BLOCKQUOTE, DIV, PRE, IMG
You can still control font sizes and colors through bbcode with the pulldowns in the compose page, or with the ‘size’ and ‘color’ bbcode tags.

I think you can get what you want by selecting “Posts” instead of “Topics” at the bottom of the search panel.

Thanks Rich, that works even better
than the search feature in the old one!
