I appologize for not being on the board much and now just popping in to ask a question. In my defense I am busy working full time and starting my own business(s), but I do find time to practice the whistle still.
I have recently started recording to mp3. I am now seeking software that can do the following editing to an mp3 file.
Cut out frames so I can trim off unwanted sections.
Adjust the volume level
Add/Edit ID3v2 tags
I’ve found all these capabilities, but in three different programs. I’d really like to have one program to do all the above with.
This is not a mere MP3 editor and might be overkill, but http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ should do what you need. It can also change tempo without changing pitch, which I find extremely useful for learning tunes by ear. It is free (as in speech and as in beer) and available for all popular operating systems.
I’m totally sold on Goldwave. I use it for all of those functions. People send me huge files to post to Clips and Snips. I boost the sound volume, trim silence off the ends, and resave as a more compressed mp3. It does a heck of a lot more than that, is very easy to use, and never crashes. I think it’s still about $45 and can be used on a fully functioning free trial basis.

it’s free and does all these things. It has one BIG advantage over many others, it records to and edits mp3 files directly. Many record to uncompressed raw data, then convert to mp3 as you save it. This means you don’t need huge amounts of disk space while you are playing with it.
I have to say I am incredibly impressed with Audacity!!! It may take a ton of disk space, but I have that. I’ll still download mp3direct to compare though.
