Score for "Marie's Wedding"

I can’t find the score for this tune (it’s not on ABC Tunefinder). It’s the one with the opening line “Step ye gaily off we go, heel to heel and toe to toe…”

A lovely tune, and I reckon good for the whistle, but where the hell is it?

Okay, I just found it on Tunefinder - I was spelling it wrong! It’s “Mairi” not “Marie” (even though the good lady it was written for [who is apparently still alive] was “Mary”).

I keep thinking of the tune to The Hills of Connemara.

“Gather up the pots and the old tin can, the something, something, the barley & the bran” etc

Is this the same or a similar tune?

Bizarre! I was given a CD over the weekend that had “The Hills of Connemara” on it, so I can say it’s not the same tune. Actually, Billy Connelly made “Mairi’s Wedding” famous with one of his typically funny sketches years ago (worth a listen if you find it).

I think I’ve been listening to too much “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue”, and as a result I keep singing “One Song to the Tune of Another”.

I don’t even know how to start explaining this radio show to our cousins across the water.

No, a very different humour - but the best! Can’t beat Alan Coren (or Paul Merton) on form.

Isn’t it the one in the Clark whistle handbook called The Lewis Bridal Song?

I found a version on The Session – http://www.thesession.org – but they’ve unaccountably made it into 3 parts (I know it with two, as for contra dancing). Under “Comments” it gives the verses.

It’s an interesting source of tunes (in abc and gif) and discussions.

Yep, it is the Lewis Bridal Song! Thanks for that. Thanks also for the intro to thesession.org
