I have my Yamaha 211 Boehm flute up for sale at a swedish site, the ad is all in swedish and everything.

Just got this in the mail and thought it was interesting :stuck_out_tongue:

Scam.

Yeah, send them your bank information (including your PIN number) so they can make that wire transfer…

Though I agree its a scam, I’d like to point out that bank transfers are quite normal business transactions in many areas of the world. I’ve done business with reputable places that want to pay in bank transfer. I guess many places have better control of this aspect than we’re aware.

If you must do the bank transfer thing, go to your bank and set up a seperate empty account for it. Typically your bank will cooperate and this empty account won’t cost.

I hadn’t looked at the bank transfer bit in deciding it was a scam. This was the clue that tipped me off . . .

has been chosen for a purchase for a Musical Concert

Just something a bit . . . off . . . about that. Then again, as you are aware, I know very little about music, so I could just be clueless that it is common practice to purchase flutes unseen for use in Musical Concerts.

The UK address is bogus, if that’s any help. I’ve never heard of anywhere in the UK called “Bearckin”, and neither has Multimap. It could conceiveably be a company name, but that is not how addresses are written in the UK. The postcode is odd - it doesn’t match the normal UK postcodes. I thought Multimap would turn up no matches - in fact it turns up 15 - but none of them match the rest of your address. It’s a “special” postcode, which, if you checked just using that, would reply “yes, this postcode exists”. Which might be enough to get it past a casual check.

It looks well dodgy to me.
