Sax players?

Anyone in here a sax player that can point me in the direction of where I can find information on an old sax I own?
It’s a silver Eb Alto with gold wash inside the bell, Marked “Frank Holton Co. Elkhorn, Wis.”, serial No. 32347. The reason I’m asking here is that somone told me a while back that it was from 1927 based on the serial no., but I just found one on ebay with a number in the 40K range that claims it’s from 1917. Any definitive catalog out there that I can look in?

TIA!

Go here for a serial number check list of Holton saxophones:

Google search I did:

I’m not a sax player but it is quiet on the reference desk at this moment in time.

I work in Elkhorn!

I don’t know for sure if they’d help you, but you could always try calling the company - 262-723-2220

once you find out about it, please tell us about it.

You may want to bone up on playing it… and listen to some Boiled in Lead. I almost wish I still had one.

You know, I may just do that (bone up, that is).
I had it from college, and recently, my daughter took up sax in school, so I wanted her to play mine. Unfortunately, come to find out, it’s a very quirky sax, with crappy action, and it’s very difficult for a beginner. The technology has come quite a long way since 1917, and even the cheapo student models (which BTW, cheapo = $1800!) are easier to play than my vintage beauty. Still, just tonight, I was able to play a simple duet with my daughter (The tried and true, “Aura Lee”), and it was quite a lovely experience for both of us.

Thanks for the input, all.
