San Francisco Tionol

You could paint the piper, and if their not good enough to waste the paper on, you could paint the piper literally.

There is an art supply house on University and 6th street, right below San Pablo. Its painted in Piet Mondrian colors- you can’t miss it. See you the nite of 2/18. What set(s) are you bringing??? If you need anything more specialized, pm me and I’ll have my daughter do some research with a walk-about in Berkeley. The art store is a couple of blocks away from Freight and Salvage. I saw Lunasa there two years ago; for those that remember, it reminded me of the fabled Ashgrove in Los Angeles

Fel

Thanks Fel. Do you by any chance know their hours? If not until 10AM then a good bit of the best part of the day for painting will have been wasted. On the other hand, the impressionists preferred painting at high noon with minimal to no shadows until they figured out how to depict fast changing light…and color in shadows.

I’ll be the beehive keeper for the weekend for sure…not sure if I’ll bring the D chanter or the entire D set. Case gets unbearably heavy in aeroports carrying both.

BTW, I jsut confirmed that i’ll be there as well and available for instruction, details TBA.

Tim Britton

P.S. I’m also looking for ancillary gigs and possibly transportation around the area especially southwards as far as Big Sur. Anyone interested in helping out contact me asap. Thanks!

Update: Besides the great pipemakers at the tionol, we’re also going to have a great whistlemaker: Michael Burke will be there! If you want to pick out a new whistle, this would be a great chance to do it.

Michael will also be giving a short talk on whistles and whistlle-making to the whistle class on Sunday.

After “one of those weeks” that doctors prefer to forget I am READY for this event! How many attendees are expected? I’ll be looking forward to seeing many of my friends…and perhaps making new ones. Watching Leo Rickard play once again will be a real treat. Lewis

Wait a sec- it’s one of those weeks for engineers as well-looking forward to going…food…piping..food…mmmm… Zachary’s Pizza on College- I will put that up to any pizza in Chicago!!!

See y’all there! BTW–I’m looking for a roomie

Thanks,

Larry

What goes on at the San Francisco Tionol; stays at the San Francisco Tionol!!

Edited once: does any one know how hard it is to spell after a couple of glasses of reasonable Pinot Noir

Hey Larry…I’m in need of a roommate as well…Fri-Sat-Sun nites. You wanna reserve a room or should I?

Thanks, Bob and gang, for the tionol this weekend. Great venues, great teachers. Love the concert at Freight and Salvage.

Reminds me of a story about a guy with three heads and a clock… :stuck_out_tongue:

It was indeed a GREAT weekend. Pipes were singin’ all over the place at all times more or less. Some great folks I got to finally meet and play with. And remember, the white one doesn’t know shight about cars.

Any photos forthcoming?

I have some photo’s from the Saturday evening recital and some low quality (sorry, its a digital camera, not a camcorder) videos from one of the Saturday night sessions with Leo Rickard if anyone would like to host them. But to answer your question Joseph, I’m sure there’ll be some official photos put up on the net soon enough.

Groovy.

I have no idea what “official” photos are. I took a few myself and was going to put them up on our website last night, but then I fell asleep. I wonder why

I’ll do my best to get them up but it might take me a few days. Feel free to mail me any photos you took that turned out well. I only have time and disk space to put up a small sampling of the tionol, though.

One problem: my group photos did not turn out well. I had to stand back so far to get everyone in the frame that the flash didn’t work well. I know a few others took some photos of the group, so please send me any that turned out.

Yeah, great weekend by all accounts! Thanks to all involved.

Patrick.

I got this PM by accident, it was supposed to be posted here… ummmmm, I think.

It is from rodthebod…(WWF wrestler?)
…
I took a few photos throughout the weekend–trying to catch various participants in the thralls of the tionol experience. I’ll pass them on to Bob Wilson or put them up with a link once I get home to Seattle.

I had a great time, as I knew I would. Many thanks to the THE COMMITTEE and hard work behind the scenes.

I’ve also go some some decent recordings of Pat Sky’s Ennis reminisinces of Seamus Ennis, recitals, and the concert. I’ll make sure they make it into the archives…and from there who know’s where they’ll end up. Stay tuned.

I’ll also try to write up a tionol report for Wally for the next review from the point of view of the official Seattle Delegation. I encourage any of the rest of you to fire off your impressions to Wally–got to keep him busy editing, or else hill just sit around the house and play his pipes…

Cheers,

Rod

“The only perfect sets of pipes are made in pubs, and that’s why no one has ever seen them…” (paraphrased from Eugene Lambe)

Here’s a few photos for the curious among you…I haven’t asked anyone’s permission about anything.

Enjoy.
