How should I do when playing a four minute Allegro tune without swallowing saliva? Because the jig is tooooo fast that I just can breathe.
After playing,my mouth usually is full of saliva.
Please “tell” me what to do.
I’ll have a tinwhistle competition after 14 days!

Leave one of the corners of your mouth slightly open, so the excess drool can dribble out. Once it gets started, bob your head up and down with the tune, to create interesting flow patterns.
Brilliant! So you have a whistle ánd waterfountain show in one performance! Be sure to set up some good spotlights to increase the effect.
I think you can order green persimmon chewwing gum from one of those import places.
As funny as I’d like to respond, that is a serious consideration. When I perform, I don’t drink or eat for at least an hour before. If someone offers me a beer, I’m unable to refuse, and I always regret it in terms of salivating too much. Swallow real good before the start of the tune. Also, try to push the saliva to the front of your mouth so you don’t choke on a quick inhalation. There are drugs, both legal and illegal, that will dry out your mouth. I’ve thought about hooking one of those dentist hoses in my cheek but the slurping noises would be distracting.
Speaking of backlighting, I was at the Barnum and Bailey Circus years ago and the elephants were backlit. This one great beast passed gas in a moist cloud the size of a truck that engulfed the guy with the shovel. The elephant and the guy acted like it never happened. Better that way, I suppose.

Yep…why is it ALWAYS chilli for the band at ceilidhs and parties…meat chilli, veggie chilli, whatever chilli…makes your mouth run and your eyes. Why didn’t I take up the fiddle??!
Next Saturday we eat first and I refuse to pass up a free meal…let’s just hope it’s quiche and sarnies

you could try eating a few saltine crackers… but i guess you miht havea problem with crumbs in your fipple.
Smoke a little mj.
That will dry your mouth out.
I always need a glass of ice water handy as I tend to be dry mouthed on stage.
Depends a lot on the whistle…some do, some don’t I find.

Green tea will dry the mouth out, too. Just be careful and experiment before you perform. You don’t want to get too dry either.
I “performed” for my speech class and at first I was worried the condensate would trickle down to the table but I was nervous enough to have a dry mouth. So just be nervous ![]()
