Sale to benefit South Asia tsunami victims

I’d been planning a raffle to benefit a local charity, but I don’t have the organizational skills for a raffle, and the money is much needed in the area hit by the recent tsunami. I’ll be sending all proceeds of this sale to Americares and Save the Children specifically to benefit the emergency around the Indian Ocean. Americares delivers things like medicine and water purifiers that will be needed immediately. STC already have an infrastructure in the area (they have lost at least two field workers in the disaster), and they work in community building, which will be needed in the long run.

I don’t dislike any of these whistles, although I like some more than others. I’m simply not playing much whistle. I’m keeping quite a lineup of whistles, along with some fine flutes that I actually do play all the time.

All whistles began at about 10% off current list price or the best that I can determine. I will discount them by 10% each week or whenever I see fit, like when this slides off the front page. At some point, which I haven’t decided, I’ll stop the sale. There are also a couple more whistles I’m thinking of adding if things go really quickly.

This is a composite whistle that Stacey’s no longer making. It has a big growly sound, and has the aesthetic appeal that all of Stacey’s whistles have

Serpent Village Smithy $70
(this is the prototype with the dragon engraving on it that drew so many remarks on the board. It was sent to me for review, and I’ve cleared the sale with Bill)

Jubilee low-C brass $50

Weltmeiser D $25
interesting whistle; it has a crack at the seam between the head and shaft that doesn’t affect the playability. Pear or fruit wood, painted green; sound not unlike the old Sweets; a little harsh at the top of the upper octave.

Our friend here specified email only . . . no PM. I did notice that there is no email listed in his profile. There is only an “email” button.

When I click those, I get a blank email. No address. Am I doing something wrong?

Could it be that your lack of sales, Chas, are due to nobody being able to email you?

When I hover my mouse cursor over the email button I definitely see a mailto: link, and when I click it, the address fills in on my Eudora… ctarrio@yahoo.com.

Maybe your mail software’s a little buggy when handling mailtos? :slight_smile:

I don’t want to pour cold water on an effort to help board members, but I wonder whether you should publish someone’s email address on a thread without inserting spam-blocking material. Spam dispensers scour the net for victims.

Now I’m here, let me say the obvious: well done Chas for helping out in this way. I’m tempted to buy something myself, but I think there are more cost effective ways for Australians to donate.

I thought about that Wombat..for about 5 minutes.

But, being a software developer, I realized that any webscraping software that stole it from my post would have no problem also getting it from the unspamblocked mailto: link in the “email” button. The email addresses look the same in the html source code, and in fact, the mailto: may be even more desirable to scraping software, being a standard mail link which presumably goes to a real address. So, I figured there was no added exposure than what was already there.

See what I mean up there? That’s the html code that makes the “email” button work. The email address is already exposed. Scraping software doesn’t see web pages rendered like we do..that’d be silly and inefficient. They just scan the html for @'s and possibly mailtos.

Had Chas used some kind of spam blocking scheme in his mailto link, I would have faithfully reproduced it :wink:

Sorry Wanderer, I thought of that after I posted. I’m usually not given to remarks like this but I vividly remember a deservedly popular member of this board, and a good friend, who was driven off, harrassed and threatened by someone who got hold of his email address here. I know the publishing was his fault and I know this case isn’t the same but I just take every opportunity to warn people not to post their email address.
