Does anyone own or have played one of these whistles? http://klick.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index_e.htm
I have done several searches but failed to find information. I’ve never even heard anyone make mention of them before.

It says “coming soon.” Maybe they aren’t on the market yet.
This fellow has posted the photo of himself in the pipes forum in one of the threads there(unless I’m mistaken and I sometimes am) I think it was in the thread where everyone was posting pics of their pipes. You might want to inquire there. They look like very well made whistles.
I just listened to his low D(without reverb) on his website, and one thing struck me funny as I listened. It sounds as though he took his whistle sound right from a steam whistle-you know, the kind you hear in old movies(if you weren’t young enough to hear them)that signaled the opening and closing of a factory’s work shift.
That sound is found in a lot of whistles, but just not to this degree, to my ears. Take a listen!

Knew this rang a bell.

Thank You for the information, I guess He is not in production yet. Very interesting and unique design though. I know what you mean about the old steam whistle sound on the Low D. Variety in whistle sound iz good, It’s like different tones of blue, all these different yet related sounds these craftspeople are able to stuff into a hollow tube. scaaary magic

A little bit of poking around got me to the Japanese page.
The high D, A, F, and two low D versions are for sale.
Prices:
Low D type I 15,000 Yen
Low D type EZ 18,000 Yen
High D 7,500 yen
A 11,000
F 13,000
From the web page:
The D is aluminum, part is poly acetal, All hand made, tunable. The windway plug is acetal. Completely different design than the low D. Two octave + 4 range. But not terribly practical above 2 octaves.
Comments on the A and F are similar
The type 1 low is loud enough to not get lost in a session.
The low EZ model has smaller holes for easier play, still loud enough for a session.
Maker is Ken Matsunaka. Doesn’t say much about him. The E-mail on the English page is the same as the J version if you want to contact him…
There are sound samples for the high whistles on the Japanese page. Look for the mp3 links. There are two versions of each tune, with and without reverb.
Japanese at http://klick.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index_j.htm
The Low D and the F whistles both seem to have offset holes for L3 and R3. Good for some maybe, not for others - big Western hands perhaps and certainly those who pay right hand on top.
Had to be someone with Japanese language support somewhere on C&F
…thx!

If someone were to ask after a “flutey”-sounding low whistle, I’d point to that one. Pretty close for what it is.
I grew up around concert flutes and that clip of the high D on ishineer sends chills down my spine. Creepy-flute-like. only 7500 yen, too. What a bargain!
