Any european chiffers going to the Rhine Valley Irish Association’s dance & music workshop? Flute class with Eamonn Cotter, whistle class with Geraldine Cotter. Please let me know if you will be there.
The facts:
-
Beginning 2003, Claudine, Amar vanish.
-
Sunday May 11th, 2003, Amar comes back
-
Next day Monday May 12th, 2003, Claudine reappears too
Welcome back… but something’s fishy:
In what kind of workshop did you hide together? ![]()
Would love to… right in my neck of the woods, too. Not planning a trip back to the old neighborhood this summer, though. Got to make the doughnuts.

Wow, I’d do anything to get lessons from Geraldine Cotter. She’s an amazing whistle player. Same with Eamon on the flute. Does the Cotter family speak french?
I guess the French will have to speak English. Btw, I’ll take the flute class with Eamonn.
Interesting Az. Reading the other night I ran across the word “métairie” and since it sounded very close to your name I decided to find out what it actually meant . Well, it’s what might be called a “sharecropper’s cottage”, and a “métayer” is a sharecropper. Now the old English word for sharecropper, which I heard not long ago in a Irish context, is… “cotter”.
Therefore “Cotter” is the English equivalent of “Métayer”. No wonder you are drawn to Geraldine, she’s family.
I kinda suspected it, I noticed that Eamonn, Geraldine and I shared some similarities. Now, it’s time to leave the city and live on a farm!
Well you’re just massively lucky. I have got a few MP3s at home given to me by another Chiff member, Eamonn is playing the flute in an intervew or something like that. It’s just amazing flute playing. I have learned a few tunes from his playing, and my favorite moments are when I sit down and play along his music. His style is very warm, mellow, subtle variations, etc. I think it’s Clare style at it’s best.
I have also heard Geraldine play whistle before, and also have her old tutorial tunes on CD. She plays the whistle like a Goddess. Maybe not technically as good as Mary Bergin, but she’ll blow Mary Bergin away with her style and phrasing.
Well, that’s just my opinion, but I had to justify my jealousy ![]()
Rhine Valley Irish Association’s

In Alsace = Elsass. Just accross the Rhein, near the Schwarzwald. It’s near Strasbourg.
