Rudall Alert!

Here is a interesting Boxwood Rudall & Rose and Carte! No serial number?:-? David, is it a fake? Got the right address…

Hmmm… It looks pretty good though.

Later variant with larger holes.

Blocks look well made.

Stamps seem to be in the right place.

Are there any known without S/N?

Yes, I think it will do nicely… :boggle: It looks like it has the potential of a real honker!
I just wonder about the lack of a serial number… The RRC that I am working on at the moment has a serial number, and the same stamp and address.

If the flute appears authentic, yet lacks a serial number, then, could a serial number have been somehow removed, at some time in history?

Looks pretty clean under the stamp, where the number should be…

it’s amazing how flute lust fades with time.

You want it, admit it! You want it…

Very pretty - I’d already seen it from my standing eBay searches, and I too was puzzled by the lack of a serial number, also by the plain overlapped C/C# key arrangement as they had long since shifted over to the interlocking ones as standard by the time this was made, if the seller’s dating info is right. That said, of course they always did special commision work and if a buyer ordered plain foot keys…

Boxwood and largish holes - should sound stunning.

I don’t think they were all interlocking, I have seen RC’s with overlapping keys. Like you say, special orders. Maybe they asked to hold the serial number, also?

it doesnt glow. i already have a flute that doesnt glow. i’m thinking i could use the 5g to buy about 10 years worth of dvds. any suggestions?

I just sent a query to the seller:

  1. Missing end cap?
  2. Frozen tuning slide?
Shall see what the reply might be.

Well the missing end cap is kind of obvious..
Don’t forget the missing foot ring also, that should lower the price about $2k.
Daiv, no one is bidding on it, maybe you can get it for $3k? :smiling_imp:

I thought I’d ask, just in case the endcap had split in two (which could probably be fixed easily enough) and had simply been left out of the photos.

Seller has responded. To paraphrase: ‘No endcap, only a cork there.’ ‘Tuning slide is fully mobile.’

The buyer would need to have an entire screw mechanism/cork and end cap made for the flute, or adjust the cork by ‘hand’ - not a very difficult proposition, if one is just looking for a beautiful flute to play, rather than a museum piece. It should be a really sweet flute.

The missing serial number should detract more from the price than anything, as it might raise questions of authenticity. I will say, however, that the makers mark looks quite authentic - exactly the same as on my Rudall, Rose, Carte 20 Charing Cross 6225.

dont say that! you just want to be able to make a new screw mechanism for it.

I’ll start roughing out the Boxwood for it… :smiling_imp:

sniped in the final second for $5,600

Worth every penny I’m sure.

That does seem like quite a lot for it being un-serialized.

Did we get any good ideas as to why is it so?

I guess everyone seems to agree that is really a RRC?

there were only three bidders…

jon! make them let you do the repairs… you dont have to give it back. :moreevil:

I think, but am by no means certain, that it was Mr R&R himself who snapped this one, our own DM. I hope it was and that he will give us a full run down on it (e.g. why no serial no. etc.) and maybe even a sound sample once it arrives and is made playable if that is necessary. David?
