Hi all,
I have a desi seery flute in ebony, key of D, it has a hairline crack on each of the top two smaller sections. I am not a flute player and I want to sell it. It plays well as it is and other flute players have said so. I think the cracks can be pinned?? but I don’t know what that would cost, my question is, what should I sell it for or what should I expect to get for it? its just a basic wooden irish flute with no extra keys. I have no photo as all this computer world is quite new to me.

Personal opinion only, but I think it would be worth your while to get it repaired prior to trying to sell it. A few people here on Chiff do repairs such as yours, notably Jon Cornia, Jem the Flute, and Terry McGee. Selling a flute with cracks is always iffy, but selling one with (professionally) repaired cracks is usually not a problem. I think you would get more than the repair cost difference if you had it fixed first.
Again, my opinion only - and I’m just a hack…

Added: Where are you?
It’s also going to depend on where you are located, since currency conversion, Value-Added-Taxes or import taxes can be a factor in pricing. I’m going to guess that with a wooden Seery that it is in Ireland, but please let us know.
Hi,
Ebony does love to crack! I wouldn’t recommend pinning the crack, it is better to pull the sleeve in the head and ream it, so the crack will have less of a chance to open again.
I would first contact Desi Seery, and see if he will repair it.
