Legendary adman Hal Riney died yesterday. This is a guy who made memorable commercials, like the Bank of America ad with “We’ve Only Just Begun” as well as things like Henry Weinhard, Bartles and Jaymes and such.
He usually did his own voice-overs and he had a great voice for it. He was a big deal around here because his office was in SF, rather than NY or LA and he produced his commercials locally.
Some of you may groan and gnash at his “Morning in America” commercial for Reagan, but it was pretty effective.
Considering it was just the usual corporate hustle, he made it a bit more bearable…
