This guy was everywhere in voice-over work. You don’t even know how many times you have heard him. 60 Minutes did a piece on him about five or six years ago, I think that showed him doing his various voices. He was very talented for that particularly weird need.
Wow! I didn’t even realize what a big effect he’d had on me until you pointed it out. Thank Gord the Rebuplicans never got hold of him! ![]()

ha, the Republicans had Hal Riney (until he died, at least).
Remember, “Morning in America?” He not only did the voiceover, he owned the company and was the chief creative man of his ad agency.
A year or so ago he was a guest on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”, the radio news quiz. He was playing for a contestant who would have gotten Carl Castle’s voice on their answering machine if he’d won for them. He lost, but offered to do their answering machine message for them as a consolation prize. The contestant rightly said “That’s better than the real prize!”
It sure was.
It’s going to be really weird, sitting in a movie theatre, listening to some strange voice describe forth coming films.
RIP Mr. LaFontaine.
