I have just received the sad news that Barney McKenna, banjo legend and last member of the original Dubliners set-up, has died unexpectedly today, aged 72.
Passed away with friends, having his morning tea. Not too bad a way to go, if you ask me. He’s the man that got me interested in playing instrumental irish music, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. May he rest in peace.
