Riddle me this, whistle-man...

What is

a) made of delrin

b) is 12 3/4 inches long

c) has an incredible 5/8 inch bore (Susato is 1/2 inch)

d) plays in the key of high D

e) loud as a Susato, but

f) has a sound like the old Clarke whistles, kind of a Seamus Ennis sound, full of chiff but not shrill in the upper register

g) has tone holes larger than some flutes!!!

There is a new whistle out, and it’s pretty durn nice. Watch this space and my website for more info. And nope, I didn’t make the thing, wouldn’t have the first clue how to even start. Here’s a hint: the maker is hardly obscure, but it takes some “knocking around” to find him.

Could it be an M&E? I thought i read somewhere that he was going to start making a whistle that is real honker.

Has to be an M&E, since Mr. Cronnolly has a link for the road to “Knockmullen”, a map to his shop. Looking forward to seeing his new whistles!

It is indeed the new M&E whistle, nice detective work there guys. Especially the bit about remembering he lives in Knockmullen View.

I don’t have a recording yet, but there is a photo of it at

I will try to get a tune recorded on it tonight so you can hear what it sounds like.
