Reyburn Low D Whistle

Hi everyone- Just thought I would post a comment on the fabulous whistle I just received from Ronaldo Reyburn. It is a totally unique looking instrument with a brass body and a beautifully carved maple head that looks like a small sculpture in itself. I love the sound that wood and brass produce- Lovely and full bodied- very haunting! Mr. Reyburn is a dream to order from- very professional and accomodating- I also ordered one of his hardshell cases with strap-easy to sling over my shoulder when I go for a hike- All in all a fine whistle with just the unique sound I was looking for.

Laurenjean, did you get the off-set hole pattern or the in-line? If you got the off-set, do you find it an easy adjustment to make?

I noticed these also come with a powder coat. Does this make a difference to the sound do you know? The sample sounded great on the home page. Do you plan to post a sample on Clips and Snips? I’d love to hear you.

The sound is not affected by the powder coating, which by the way, I am phasing out due to production problems.
I am madly working to update my web site, it is badly out of date (much new stuff to show)so please be patient with me.

To Constance- yes, I got the offset hole pattern- I like it much better. My hands and fingers are large enough to play the inline pattern but the offset holes make it easier and more natural to me. Only takes about 10 minutes to get the hang of it.

I too have the offset hole pattern, and I use my little fingers to reach the third hole. It’s quite comfortable, really, and I’m doing very well with the fingering. And the sound is awesome!

Just curious. Those of you who are having success with the offset holes:

Does the offset hole pattern work well for players who normally use a piper grip on in line holes? Or, is offset something that works well for players who otherwise try a standard grip on low whistles? (And maybe use a pinky)
