Returning to Whistling and a question

I doubt if anyone remembers me but I joined this forum a few years ago, learned much, and played whistles a bit. Since musically I tend to wander from instrument to instrument so I’ve been playing guitar again and added bass guitar.

Anyway I want to get back to whistles since they are just so enjoyable to play. I just ordered another (Clare two-piece) to add to my collection of inexpensives as I intend to do some traveling and thouth the two-piece will pack easier. I’ll likely tweak it a bit as I did successfully with some of my others.

My question (and I did try searching this) is has anyone trimmed a whistle down so all you have is the mouthpiece and a couple of inches of tube then inserted this into a piece of PVC? Might be blasphemous :open_mouth: I know but I just thought I’d ask.

Thanks in advance (as before),

Don’t know specific instances, but why not? People mix-and-match heads and bodies all the time. You’d be using the remaining tube as a joint coupler.

Yes MT, just what I was thinking. Maybe I’ll be the first! I though that I can make some modal scale whistles that way, just replace the head. I’ll have to do some measuring and maybe take a whistle down to Home Depot for sizing.

Love HypnoToad BTW!

For Generation-type heads … Pick up some 1/2" brass tubing while you’re at it, and you won’t need to butcher any whistles!

Of course you do. Everybody loves Hypnotoad!

Using just the mouthpiece is an even better idea, thanks!

Hypnotoad for President!

Wow, that came out a wee bit large!

er, geez, maybe ya oughtta trim that pic size while you’re at it !

welcome back, Bob, I wasn’t here when you started. It must’ve been fun.

It’s a direct link so it’s not my pic but HT demands that it be unmodified.

Yes, I had a lot of fun when I joined C&F and more importantly, I was treated kindly though asking many many doofy questions. This is one of the nicest places on The Net for sure!
