From time-to-time, someone, usually someone who is upset, asks me to delete their accounts, delete all of their posts, or do something along those lines to facilitate their departure from the forums. Our policy is not to do those things. We will typically deactivate accounts on request. Once this is done, a person can’t use that account to log-on to the board.
If an account is, on the other hand, deleted, all the posts made via that account then appear to have been created by “Guest.” Other posts in the thread that might refer to those posts are unchanged. It creates confusion and we don’t want posts by Guests to remain in the threads.
We have no simple mechanism for deleting multiple posts. These have to be searched and listed and deleted by hand. (Maybe there’s an easier way to do this than I’m aware of, but, uh, I’m not aware of it.) Furthermore, making some posts in a thread disappear renders some threads incomprehensible. People often block-quote other people’s posts as part of the reply process. We can’t be expected to go through and find and delete all of those.
So, post at the risk that you might decide later that you wish you hadn’t!
Thanks!
