Hi all-- check out the “Copeland Low D for sale” thread.
Dale humorously wrote “Someone buy this immediately… for me!”. I sort of hijacked the thread and suggested that all of us could give something back to Dale by chipping in $10 or so to help buy it for him.
Dale has created this worldwide whistle community almost single handedly and I’m sure lots of folks out there would be more than happy to give back a bit to him.
I know for a fact that running these boards and getting out newsletters has sometimes weighed rather heavily on the Undisputed One. Let’s show him how much all of this means to us!
As a beginner with only a few months of whistle playing and no whistle mentor, this site has been my primary resource for all things whistle related.
And now – on top of all he has already done – I understand that Dale is doing a rewrite of the whistle reviews, adding a list of must-have whistle CDs, etc. The man deserves a big thank you.
Plus this appeals to my twisted sense of humor.
I am in for $10.
Paul, as one of the most visible and respected members of our group, will you handle the funds?
I was up for it then and I am up for it now. The best thing that C & F has ever done for me is helping me meet other whistlers and that alone deserves a gift.
Great idea. This forum has given me tremendous information. There are no Irish music people around here. I would have been lost in “lower whistledom” and have given up based on the early whistles I got. Instead, I have near terminal Whoa, but I sure am enjoying it!
And Paul, I’d not known of you and your great product. Or gotten my first Busman from Byll.
I sent you some “seed money” to start it off, not much - but what the heck - we need to get it started.
I agree that Dale indeed deserves all of our gratitude.
I was also under the impression that he had five gallon buckets filled with all variety of whistle.
I don’t know Dale from Adam. We’ve emailed all of like twice. But I’d be willing to go out on a limb and say he would rather money be sent in his name to the Hunger Site or the Red Cross or something like that.
Just my opinion. He just seems like that kinda guy.
OK folks-- the seller of the Copeland Low D has agreed to hold it for us, and also chipped in $10 himself in the form of a price reduction. So, only 34 of us can buy this puppy for $10 each.
At this point, please send Paypal payment of $10.60 to Brewerpaul@aol.com (recall that the extra $.60 covers my PayPal charges). I can accept checks, but I’ll need them VERY soon. PayPal would be much faster and easier. No foreign checks as my bank charges me $8.00 to cash or deposit them!
Judging by the response so far, we may well go over the selling price of this whistle. I will donate ALL funds above the price of the whistle and shipping to the Hurricane Katrina funds that I raised in my whistle auction for that cause. Anyone who didn’t feel they could afford to make a bid in the auction can still donate in this way and honor a great person at the same time. I’ll post updates here from time to time. Please, get those payments in right away. If by chance you send a check, please e-mail me and let me know (brewerpaul@aol.com)… Thanks!
Progress-- as of this hour, we have $ 93.66 in the whistle fund. Not bad considering that most people in the US are probably at work at this point. One person from overseas sent in $35. Looking good!
Wow, my first post on the site. I’ve enjoyed sitting in the background and learning, learning, learning! Thanks to all of you for sharing. When I think I’m good enough, I’ll start doing the same.
For all you super sleuths out there, yes, I’m the one who picked up several of Pat O’Riordan’s magnificent whistles lately. What a sound they produce! They weren’t all for me as there are actually folks out here without computers! Imagine that!
Thanks to Dale for having such a wonderful site for us!!
He does indeed seem like that kind of guy.
I just looked back over some of my saved correspondence with Dale, and I found one where he mentioned that he used to actually have a Copeland Low D which he sold for charity (see, he IS that kinda guy). He told me back then that he didn’t think he’d miss it, what with all those buckets of whistles, but found out that he did. So it seems that this effort is an especially good thing.
I’m in. PayPal and I don’t work well together so I’m sending a money order. Looks like you’ll go over at this point but if it goes to the Katrina fund, great!
Thanks to Dale and Thanks to you for your efforts and your whistles.
