I just listened to some renaissance music on the radio… It was sung by a countertenor and there was a lute accompanying.
On the pipes I only know the music from O’Carolan from the baroque period…
Have you ever heard any recordings or seen sheet music of older pieces, from the 16th century, you can play on the uilleann pipes?
Yes.
You can play most of Tielman Susatos Work on the Pipes.
And many tunes from Michael Praetorius Therpsicoes sounds really nice.
A really easy way ist to buy “Spielmanns Notenbuch” from Michael Hofmann.
The Tunes are mostly written in c, but very easy to transpose.
Thanks for this thread, and the tips! I’ve been wanting to try something on my pipes at a Midwinter Feaste thing we do every year, but didn’t know where to start.
both are nice to play on the Pipes.I used to play that stuff on my renaissance Pipes, but works on Uilleanns as well. You only have to transpose from C / F to D / G.
And it dont look that old when you play Uillean Pipes
There is Liam O’Flynn’s take on Irish Marche (sic), the piece written for viginal by William Byrd. This can be found on one of the Planxty albums. I think the dots are available on The Session, but not necessarily accurate as far as pipes go.
@Thomas: Have you heard about the tune book “Schnurrpfeiffereyen”? I just came across it when I was searching for the other books you recommended… It says there’s some music by O’Carolan in it. What do you think of it?
Yes. I have a Copy of Schnurrpfeiffereyen Band 1 here. But i don’t know where… hmm
I can not remember exactly the Tunes, but i don’t liked the book very much.
When i find it, i can send it to you.
