Regulator tuning plunger style caps

I am considering doing some maintenance upgrades to my pipes such as replacing broken mounts and making drone and regulator end caps that match (they don’t at present. In doing this I thought it might be an opportunity to fit regulator end caps with tuning plungers if I can work out what to do…anyone tried this or know of any plans or articles on these sort of caps?

Thanks,

Ian Lawther

Asked a maker about this a few weeks ago and his reply was that generally they are not needed. He pointed out that only a very few makers use them

Apparently they are for changing the distance where the bore ends on closed pipes and the effect they have is minimal and usually only alter one note and that it is nothing new and innovative and has been done before.

You need a cylindrical section for the piston to fit in which means drilling out the end of the existing regulators

Might be an idea to post this on the ‘other’ forum on the reeds and pipe making section http://uilleannforum.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=9529f1c9833102891314b9197584c995
