If I may be allowed an entirely personal remark: Whenever I read here about regional gatherings of C&F people, Northeastern, Oklahoman, Whereveren–my heart is truly warmed. It makes me happy.
One day we’ll have one in the Deep South of the USA and I’ll come and not play the whistle. I have a reputation as a bad whistle player to maintain.
on a dulcimer website I frequent, we have a member who drives charter buses. We’ve often dreamed of having CD drive around the country, picking us up, dropping us off, and just having kinda a “Greatful Dead” dulcimer tour.
We could do it for whistles, too!!!
It would be cool, if everyone associated with this forum could all get together for a week of fun, frivolity and tuneage somewhere. Maybe rent an island in the Carribean (not during hurricane season of course), or rent out an entire hotel in, say, St. Thomas.
There’s also Sunnywindo and Ceesi in the area, and folks from Wyoming and Colorado have been known to show up…I doubt I’d manage to come along this time though!
Then some of us can dress up like pirates, and say some really smart things like: “Yarrrrrrr” or “Avast ye scurvy dogs” or “Arrrrr, I gotta go to the little cabin boy’s room”…
Here you go – the perfect spot for a get-together for the residents of the continental United States – Lebanon, Kansas, the Geographic Center of the Contiguous United States.
This nifty stone marker isn’t actually smack dab in the center (that’s over the hill in a nearby hog farm) but it’s still nice to look at . . .
. . . or get your picture taken at . . .
. . . or just stand on top of and act like a goofball.
There’s a motel right next to the monument –
– and we can probably get the chapel as a performance venue.
The friendly folks of Lebanon will be happy to see us.
(That’s Paul and Sue; Paul is from England.)
If you get tired of chiffing, there’s a ton of things to do in Lebanon: Lammeys’ Cafe, Betty’s Beauty Bar, and the Higby Bros. Gun Shop # 1, to name but a few.
And you could always pop on over to Osbourne, Kansas, and check out the Geodetic Center of the United States.
So let’s all head to Lebanon – it’s equally inconvenient for all of us.
(I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to make it that weekend.)
