Piper and reedmaker, Tom Kennedy, of Erins Call, in Maine, due to a recent injury has packed his pipes away for the time being, and is now making reeds full time.
He is taking orders and will make reeds according to the specifications he receives. He is a good, knowledgable reedmaker, and capable of making reeds without having the chanter sent to him.
A few years ago I had him make me a reed for my Williams chanter, sight-unseen, and it is a good reed.
I had Tom make two reeds for a Roberts chanter, sight unseen, before I started making my own. They were both very nice reeds. Unfortunately, one suffered a fatal, traumatic encounter with a four year old and the other did not survive the lack of moisture on the planet Utah. He was very pleasant and helpful and I was very satisfied with his work. I’m sorry to hear he has to put the pipes down for now. I would go crazy.
Tom is a great fellow, yes, and I think he’s also had his share
of bad luck along the journey. But if anyone needs a good reed, or
two, give him a call.
