Recording I threw together this morning...

Hi y’all,

Having fun with a Generation B-flat whistle and Sobell octave mandolin. Overdubbed using ProTools this morning…

Please let me know what you think!

Bravo! Very cool, very nice. I’ve been working on a recording project with a friend using overdubbing and have been having a lot of fun with it. I thoroughly enjoyed your playing and musicianship.

Michael,
Your music cured my headache. That’s the best compliment I could ever pay any musician! Thanks so much for going to the trouble of posting your recording. Who is the originator of Gravel Walk? Aside from my WhOA, I also have to contend with S(oftware) obsessive acquisition. Protools has just been added to my wish list.
Peace, Love, and Happiness,
Lisa

What did I think? First I thought “Wow”. That is a great clip and I thoroughly enjoyed listening.
Then I thought “Darn!” (Sorry about the strong language) I have so far to go to get to that level of playing. (I’ve plateau’d and it’s a long one.) Its encouraging to know that there once was a time when you couldn’t play a pennywhistle, (unless you’re a Crystal Person incognito) and now you sound like that. It gives me hope.

Fantastic!

Really nice!

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

It’s a real nice tune

Extremely enjoyable to listen to. Was the vibrato on the last note achieved with fingers or diaphragm ?
Bob

It was finger vibrato. Generally I’ll only use diaphramatic vibrato when playing aires, finger vibrato the rest of the time.

What cracks me up is that I’ve been playing these premium whistles for a while, suddenly I’m in love with my tweaked up Generation B-Flat, which cost me all of $10.00 or so…

Cheers,

Michael

I’m a bit of q 12 string guitar player, don;t know about mandolin. My recollection is Gravel Walk is written in, I’m guessing here, A Mixolydian (?)If you used a Bb Gen,then did you Capo 1 on the Mandolin and play as if the tune was in “A” ? That’s what I’m visualizing I would do with Bb whistle and Guitar.

Exactly, I capoed first fret on my octave mandolin and used mandocello fingering for the chords… When I figured that out, it was like a lightbulb came on in my head, since these days I prefer backing up on Mandocello..

Cheers,

Michael
