I have a fond for some galician tunes since I listened to Carlos Nunez for the first time,his sound is amazing(does anybody have the notes for the tunes he´s playing on ´´Mayo Longo´´?)
Specially one of his tunes impressed me so much that I tried to learn this one: Aires de Pontevedra .
He´s playing this tune (Bb ) with an Alto recorder next to 2 or 3 gaitas ,and he´s playing the original melody while the gaitas play a version with one turn up while he´s playing the down version (carlos is playing F D C A Bb in the down turn version , the gaitas play F D C F Bb ) .
Now I want to record this tune on a Demo tape I want to use for presentations ,and I think about how I could play the down turn version in this tune .
In my view I have three options : a Bb with added A hole or an Alto recorder , or a ´´recorder´´whistle (whistle with open fingering but note holey like an recorder except thump holes).
As a little dilemma I have to say that I´m a lefty so it´s hard to play bog standart records for me cause I use to play with the right hand on top.
Would you suggest a whistle with added hole or an alto recorder ?
And if Alto recorder : where to get a good but not expensive recorder?
or do you know someone who is making them (maybe as a hobby maker?)?

Kenny ,nice D version of the aires ,but D is maybe the only version I don´t want to use of this tune.
I´ve written/arranged a few versions of this tune and even ´´wrote´´the original version after listening to carlos tune.

Mitch Gaitas are Galician Bagpipes ,this musician seems to have a crush for the arabian music,that´s sth different.
I’m afraid I don’t understand your problem, Julian. You can play that tune, as I’ve transcribed it, on any 6-hole tin whistle. If you want to play it in a different key from A mixolydian, [ which is what I posted, not in “D” ] - just use a whistle in a different key. The fingering is the same irrespective of the key the whistle is in.
I also cant’ understand why you’re asking us “recorder or whistle” ? That’s something you’ll have to decide for yourself, surely? Why not learn it on both ?
If you are asking whether the recorder or whistle is more common in music from the various regions of Spain, from what I remember of Galician and Asturian bands I’ve seen at the Lorient Festival in Brittany in the 1980s, quite a few used recorder, but some also used whistles. Someone else would know more about that than me. Sorry, can’t help you with the other tune you’re looking for.

Well ,I think about if I should get a whistle with extra holes for tunes with notes too deep for the usual whistles or to get an alto recorder .
I could do both ways ,the only problem that i think about is I´m a lefty and I play with the right on top so it could be difficult to play recorders(just remember my awful trys in school days)
Your version of the aires is working btw ,but I made different versions for different keys so I see the notes exactly(even if you´re right ,you can take the same fingering on most whistles)
Decided and bought an Alto Recorder ,will get a new experience with it ,but where is a tin whistle father to confess my ´´immortal´´sin ??
Made a few tests with the Alto Recorder of a friend ,and decided that an Alto recorder could be the better choice for a tune with too low notes .
