recently bought a tuneable chieftain low D,

Greetings from Scotland. Anyone know how to tune the Low D, have played alto whistles but new to Tennor…I am also looking for a good low D tutor

Many thanks

Brian

:astonished:

To tune your low D, cover all six holes and play the note in front of an electronic tuner (a guitar tuner is good too). The note should be a D.
If it’s too sharp or too flat, turn the tunable slide of the whistle in order to get it shorter or longer until you reach the perfect D.
Also, be sure to warm up your whistle before doing that.
Chieftain whistles usually sound flat when they are nor warmed up.
The best low D tutor, in my mind, is “The Low Whistle Book” by Steafan Gannigan and David Ledsman (book + CD).

Many thanks for your help…I did as you said and got it smack on D…now all I have to do is to master the bottom hole and get oit to stop screeching.

Brian

You might want to tune the G rather than the D. I think it’s better to tune to a note that is more comfortable to play.

thanks, so I tune my low D to G? I checked out your site, cool, nice sound

Brian

Brian,
to tune your low D using the G note you must close just the first three holes (G note) and check with a tuner that the note is G.

Hmm. Yeah, go for it. Alternatively, make sure that the G is a G.

Thanks!
