Received a response from Garvin re: regulator key positions

I had sent an inquiry to the Na Piobairi Uilleann, asking for info on the pipes drawn in the Garvin book; I received the following response from Nicola Spain:

Hi John,

Here’s what Wilbert said:

"The copy of the 1978 book has been updated and re-edited - new edition
was in 2000 - unfortunately already out of print.

The drawing were not made from any particular maker of pipes - they were
a composite of the measurements of the best concert pipes that I could
find

at the time."

He said to contact him if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Nicola

I wrote to Wilbert giving my perceptions and questions about the regulator key positions in the book, and got the following response:

"Dear John

Thanks for your detailed reply and drawing my attention to this situation.
You are the first to do so.

I have looked carefully at my drawings of the regulators. The keys should
in reality line up.

I must admit that the keys on the tenor regulator appear to be very slightly
longer than they should be - they should line up with the baritone keys. You
could as an alternative, if you already have made all the keys, turn down
the baritone regulator so that it goes into the mainstock a little further.

Regarding the bass regulator - this fits on to the separator which has a
plate to fix it to the mainstock. Positioning of the keys therefore depends
on fixing this plate in the correct position.

With some simple small adjustments you should have no problem in lining up
the keys.

Please note an error on page 32 - The Regulators - where it states ‘Pushing
the tuning pin in sharpens the notes while pulling it out flattens them.’
This should read ‘Pushing the tuning pin in flattens the notes while pulling
it out sharpens them.’

I trust that this information helps. If you have any problems don’t
hesitate to contact me.

Take care
Wilbert"
