"Ready-to-use" wood for Pipemaking?

Hello,

I was just wondering if there is such a thing as “Ready-to-use wood” in Pipemaking world?

What I mean, is to be able to buy some “dry” blanks for chanters, give them few weeks for “settle down” to the humidity of workshop and then make a chanter from start to finish?

I think usualy pipemakers buy blanks, bore them and then they wait for 5 years

Anyone, who can enlighten me ? A PM with some European supplier would be very welcome.

Thanks a lot

While not a wood, Delrin may be what you are looking for. It is stable, easy to turn, and many pipe-makers use it with success for quickly building quite good instruments, and for experimenting with bores and finger-holes.
