Re-Syn-ed . . .

Okay, I’m resorting to asking…humbling myself…grovelling.

Anyone have an old style (no decorative band) Syn that they might wish to part with? Serious offers can be made to my email.

Syncerely,
Tyg

Didn’t see any responses, but I’m curious to know what you mean about the decorative bands. I have a new set that does have a sort of band at the base of the head-joint, which is also where the key is etched. It’s not overly decorative – very tasteful, I think. Anyway, they are great whistles, and a great value for the money. Gaelic Crossing has 'em in stock, and they’re cheap, if you didn’t get a PM offer.

Tyg,

Have you thought of emailing Erle to see if he still has ony of the old style ones? Just a thought. I don’t presume to put words in his mouth, but you never know, if he doesn’t he might make one for you. Seems like a heck of a nice guy.

Good luck,

dow

I spoke to Erle personaly about this. He has no old stock. Also, he is not set-up to make whistles that way any more - if he were to attempt to do a retro number it would simply not be the same .. bit of a dilemma really.

I’m bumping this because I know how hard Tyg has tried to get an old style Syn - there must be someone out there with one?

I have a couple of them around here somewhere. You’re talking about the original aluminum tube, black acetyl whistlehead model?

PM me your address, and I’ll send you one. They arrived here one way or another at no cost to myself, so I’ll be happy to send one along to you at no cost, too.

Best wishes,
Jerry

That is exactly why I stay here. . .

You, Jerry, are a gentleman and a scholar. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

..What Mark said, Jerry… It always shows through.

Be well.

I’ve a long way to go before I’ve given this community anywhere close to what I’ve received. You are a treasure.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Tygress,

I was impressed by the recording you made on clips and snips and decided to order a Syn for myself.

I liked the full sound with a little chiff in the voice.

In your opinion, what is the difference between the old and new Syn?

I like the sound and feel of the new one I just got… a louder, fuller sounding version of a Sindt IMHO!

Nate

Thanks for all the replies folks, and of course ESPECIALLY Jerry! I’ve been off on vacation (went to the House of the Mouse and had a great time…heard a bit of fifing at the American pavilion in Epcot and played my walking stick flute while waiting in lines (much to the delight and dismay of those around me, I’m sure)).

The old style Syn had a different windway that gave a different sound – not ‘better’ or ‘worse’, just different, and it was a sound that I liked very much. The newer models are still fine, but they aren’t what I remembered. If I had to describe it I think I would say it was more robust. So lets see if it was just that one I let get away, or if the old model is really what I was looking for.

Nate, I’m glad my playing gave you cause to try them for yourself! I found the sound to be very stable and pleasant.

Sincerely,
Tyg
