Did Ebblewhite ever make anything? I have a E flat clarinet with their name engraved on it (beautifully). But the instrument was made by Gautrot in Paris - Ebblewhite was just the importer.
That address, should be 1883-95 possibly, more likely 1896-1916.
Some info from Langwill’s:
1840 workshop established by John Henry Ebblewhite, nephew of William Ebblewhite, music seller and publisher; maker of flute etc, as BI [Brass Instrument] dealer supplied by H. KEAT & SONS, PELISSIOON, BOHLAND & FUCHS.
The use of the colon, and subsequent info under that listing (where his mark includes the word ‘MAKER’), leads one to believe that perhaps he did make the flute, but was a dealer for brass instruments. And that his uncle, William, was a music seller and publisher, not involved in instruments.
Yes, it does indeed. But there’s an earlier more english-looking one in the Dayton C Miller collection, marked the same way only with a different address. 24 High st.
