Rattlin' Bog

Hello Folks,

I am currently in the process of planning out the spring out-door education programs.

One of the services that the camp I work for provides is a camp-fire sing-a-long.

In the past I have sang Rattlin’ Bog with just Bohdran. Very interesting if not exhausting on my part.

I would like to do something different this year. I have a guitarist this year and I would like to use my whistle for this song.

I am looking for a fitting tune to play after the song to get them dancing.

Any suggestions?

Laura

If you’re looking for another fun sing-a-long like Rattlin’ Bog, you could try Poor Paddy on the Railway… and if you’d like to warm up your audience with a good laugh first, you could recite The Sick Note.
I’ll shut up now before the Dubs fan in me takes complete control of this reply!

I’ve been churning this over in my mind & I keep coming back to “McNamara’a Band”. What kind of dance you could do to this is beyond me.

I think because I first heard it about the same time as “The Rattling Bog” when I was a young tyke, on my dad’s old gramaphone. I have no idea where we got the record, I have a feeling Bing Crosby might have been singing it!

Thanks for bringing back the memory! Lump in eye and tear in throat thinking back to my days of nipperdom. Oh my, how long ago it seems, choke, cough, shakes head.

I was raised on Bing Crosby!!!
AS a child we never missed the Christmas shows. White Christmas… now that brings a tear to me throat!

Christmas In Killarney, now there’s a good one. I wrote a parody to that one called Christmas in Ohio. Eh Hem!

Oh! I am going OT on my own thread here!
If I am correct McNamara’s Band is a singing one too.

I am looking for something instrumental. Just something to get the kiddies clapping, toe tapping, and perhaps doing a little jig.

Laura, do you know of any place that has a sound file for Rattlin’ Bog (preferably with lyrics)? I haven’t heard it and would like to… I’m searching on the web right now, but if you know of a source offhand, I’d appreciate it!

EDIT: never mind, found one! Sounds like a fun song to do with kids, or the young-at-heart.

Yep, sure was! ::grin::

Hello Folks,

IDEA!! Light bulb!!!

I was rattlin’ my brain while sitting in the doctor’s office with my son, going over the tunes that I am fimiliar with. (I wonder if the patients would of been upset if I had my whistle with me? My humming and tapping annoyed my son though.)

Anyways I think I found a tune that will fit with the Rattlin’ Bog.

“The Maids of Ardagh”

As soon as I got home I tried it on my whistle. It’s doable.

Thanks for your comments on this topic.
