I recently was fortunate enough to run across a post to USENET by someone who had obtained rare copies of a couple of Japanese laserdiscs… one containing old Pogues videos, and the other a complete live performance!
He ran a laserdisc player into his computer and digitally converted the laserdiscs to SVCD quality MPEGs.
I am currently in the process of converting them to DivX Pro v5.05 encoded AVIs with Fraunhofer MP3 v1.263 Profesional audio… that will allow me to fit them onto regular 700mb CDs with no noticeable loss of video or audio quality.
These videos are nearly impossible to obtain through legitimate channels, and I’m overjoyed to finally have copies in my posession… I’ve been wanting them for several years!
For those of you who may ever need to be able to easily re-sync the audio of a digitized video file, I finally found a program that does it… and it’s freeware too!
It is called YAAI (Yet Another Avi Info), and it was just what I needed to keep my Pogues laserdisc rips from looking like Japanese movies with overdubbed English audio!
