Bill McNaughton has just fully restored this lovely wooden Boehm flute. We have had it for years awaiting restoration and have finally got to it.
It was originally in a consignment of flutes; piccolo, fife, Eb low Bb and low Ab all made by the same company, all Boehm system. The set was from Ireland and I think it was a set of instruments from a band.
The various stamps on the flute read; Philharmonic, Montague Bros, 65 Goldsmith Row, London. Eb. In the case it reads; Montague Bros & Co, Makers.
I don’t play a Boehm flute but I have tried to ascertain the pitch of this instrument.
The tuning graph is in this collection of images along with those of the flute. I will do a video demonstration once I’ve untangled my fingers from that effort. (the notes that are in red are more likely due to my cack-handedness than the instrument)
This flute has an internal hidden tuning slide, double lined in the head tenon. I can easily persuade this flute to play in concert pitch (maybe high pitch) and imagine it would be useful to those Boehm players that need an Eb flute. Those tricky Eb and Bb Scottish tunes suddenly become more accessible!
We will probably (soon) put this up on a popular auction site that is too ubiquitous to need a mention here, unless some one persuades otherwise.
