I want to replace a bunch of interior doors. My question is (and don’t answer unless you know) is, when specifying the side of the doorknob on prehung doors, which way are you facing? I presume you’re facing so that the door is swinging away from you, but given how many doors I need (13), I wanna be damn sure.

I didn’t follow the link to see how they answered the question, but here’s the method I was taught over 30 years ago when I was first training to be a finish carpenter. Since then, I’ve hung hundreds of doors.
Pretend your shoulder or elbow is the hinge and your arm is the door. If you sweep your arm in the motion of opening a door that swings away from you, you will use your right arm to simulate a right hand door, and you will use your left arm to simulate a left hand door.

Whenever I order doors, I ask the person at the other end of the conversation how s/he defines right and left hand, to make sure we both mean the same thing.

The only practical way to do it is to calculate rightness and leftness according to how the doors swing as you’re going into the saloon. Going out of the saloon, it’s impossible to remember the formula.

If one exits the saloon on hands and knees it probably wont be an issue.
