I have been working with the Mad for Trad Flute Tutorial for while and have a general question on Seamus Egan’s technique of pulling back his (L3) ring finger from the G tone hole as he is going up or down to A and B notes. He contracts it significantly inward toward the palm of his hand. He’s lightening fast with it, but I find this quite unatural and it seems more efficient to just raise the finger pad slightly above the tonehole.
Does anyone know if this is unique to his style, or is this a relatively orthodox fingering technique?
