Well, I’ve got my computer’s mic plugged in, I’ve found the Windows Sound Recorder, and I believe I’ve got everything working as explained in 2nd Wind’s extremely helpful post
Now here’s my question. Is it possible to record anything longer than 60 seconds with this setup? 60 seconds appears to be the default setting, and I can’t find any way to change it.
I won’t be able to afford any (even cheap) software for awhile, but if the problem can’t be solved with Windows Sound Recorder, maybe someone can suggest freeware, if it exists, that will record longer.
Hi, Jerry. You can record longer than 60 seconds by doing it in pieces and adding on until you get the amount of time you need, or opening up a sound file that’s long enough. Then you just delete all the stuff in that file, and use the longer file for your recording. So far, that’s the only way I’ve found to do it in Windows Sound Recorder.
There is quite a bit of shareware out there, notably GoldWave, but personally, I prefer using Sound Forge XP for recording and Blaze Media Pro for conversions of wav from/to mp3 files. Sound Forge XP is reasonably inexpensive, and is very, very professional quality.
