Quality of Life Survey

Mercer human resources’ quality of life survey is out, what’s everyone think of the results.

Ottawa’s sitting at 20. No doubt a fine place to live, but it can be a tad quiet, so it shows just how subjective the survey is. Vancouver is three, which could easily have something to do with abundent and effective drugs. How about your cities?

The lowest scoring city in North America is Atlanta, ranked 90 with a score of 90.5, due to street crime and burglary.

Go, Atlanta! Now do y’all see why I need to find someplace else to set down some roots? :boggle: :stuck_out_tongue:

"Cities are ranked against New York as the base city, which has a rating of 100. The analysis is part of a worldwide quality of life survey, covering 215 cities, to help governments and major companies to place employees on international assignments. "

Hmmm… New York as the measure to meet or beat… hmmmm…

You can come live with me, ad, when I find my lovely place in the country, with fields filled with wildflowers, and acres of woods to look for faeries

Wollongong not in the top 50! What could they be thinking?

Just come stay with me… I’ve got those…

I will just stay where I am

“Luxembourg ranks as the world’s top city for personal safety and security, according to a quality of life survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The city scores 122.5 followed by Helsinki, Bern, Geneva, and Zurich which take joint second place with scores of 120.”

Hmm…I thought Luxembourg was a country? Is it a city, too, like the Vatican or something?

The Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg is a country whose capital is called Luxembourg-city.

I don’t live in a metropolitan area, so probably wasn’t in the running.

Does London have a higher level of petty crime than NY? How does one define petty?

That makes sense.

Danke/Merci (I don’t know how to say thanks in Lëtzebuergesch, unfortunately, but I suspect it’s similar to French or German, no?).

pickpockets as opposed to armed robbers, for example.
the results may also be skewed by reporting rates. petty crimes may go largely unreported in NYC, especially in poorer communities where many people don’t trust the police.

I’ve been reading my guide book for my Benelux trip this summer and under crime for Luxembourg it says “If you are a victim of crime in Luxembourg, run, because you will be stuffed and put in a museum.”
