Q1 whistle

what do you thing about Q1 whistle? is a good instrument?

Its quite quiet

It is one of my favorite whistles. I have a few that I consider to be my essential whistles, the Alba Q1, a humphrey D/Eb set, a Hoover Whitecap/Oak and a Feadog. They are very different from one another but all great whistles that I can’t do without. I had an Alba low C here for a visit and it was also great. The next whistle on my list is an Alba low D.

Sometimes I like mine. It’s a bit of an airy, tough blower, relative to several others–namely Burke, Sindt…
I also find the upper register a little sharp, and easy to lose if I’m not focused enough.
But sometimes, as I said, it’s just the right sound. It’s probably my favorite D from a purely aesthetic viewpoint.

I played my Q1 whenever I wanted a quiet whistle and like it very much but now I’m raving about my Hoover whitecap on a brass Feadog barrel. Quiet, needs hardly any breath, octave transitions easy, Cnat in tune, lovely pure tone.

I just received my Q1, and in the few days I have been able to play it I must say that I just love it. I do like the back pressure, it isn’t as much as some posts made it sound, and it is consistent between registers. I usually play a Dixon D or O’Brien which have no back pressure what-do-ever and I had absolutely no difficulty adapting to the Q1. I like its sound very much, fairly pure but not too-pure and the whisle look is flawless, very pro looking a real work of art. It is quieter than a Dixon but not much quieter. Certainly too quiet for session playing, but I think that this is just great if you play by yourself and practising.

I was looking for a whistle with some back pressure as I found it difficult to transition between the Songbird Low D and a whistle without any back pressure. The Q1 is prefect for me.
