Hi Folks, Last night i had the opportunity to have a go on a beautiful nickleson prowse flute…an amazing instrument altogether great tone and great silver work.I was wondering were there any of these flutes made left handed as i would go to great lengths to get my hands on one.I have also played a couple of thomas prowse flutes that are lovely…but as yet have not seen a lefty.
here’s a lefty Clementi made by Prowse.

for sale by Tony Bingham

I own the righty “brother” of this one and with a new footpiece to accommodate the higher pitch D, it’s a wonderful player.
Tony wants 2300 sterling for it…a pretty fair price, I think. You’ll need the emb checked and the crack repaired.
Nice milled rings. I have the same on a boxwood Rudall. The rings on my clementi, though, are more decorative figured.
thanks a million…now where is that two and a half grand i need to come by??..maybe soon!
Is there much work needing to be done to this instrument? I play for a living so i would need it to be working well…all the best Barry
seems that you’d have to contact Tony Bingham himself on those questions.
Too…contact a few makers in the UK (chris wilkes perhaps?) who could offer an assessment on repairs and costs.
I was talking to a great flute maker yesterday about this flute and he mentioned that a lot of tuning could be needed…and that right handed versions can be come by for much less money…i am undecided what to do , i will keep an eye out for one in better condition…or perhaps order a new one in the same style.
