Problems with WinXP SP1

My friend is a firm believer in “If something works, why change it?” I thought his computer could use a little upgrade, so he installed SP1. Since then, it tells him to go online every time he opens a folder (with web content in it, I guess). It never did that before. And, pesky popups have returned (registry cleaners, adult friend finders, etc.). Everything is back the way it was to the best of hisy knowledge (by means of settings), and Norton doesn’t detect spyware, adware, or viruses. What should he do?He’s seem to have had nothing but problems since installing SP1. Any thoughts? Should he uninstall SP1?

Go through and reset all the preferences again. Its not such a big deal.

Go the whole hog and install SP2 it’s stable and the pop-up blocker is OK too.

Another problem…he goes through with all his [internet] settings again, but every time he shuts off/turns on, they are all reset. What should he do?

The nuclear option, a Clean Re-install may be the only answer to weird malfunctions.
