Have just come from a. n. other forum, feeling animated and with sweat beads on brow
in which I found myself having to put up a doughty defence of the “bagpipes” of several traditions. Some of the stuff bandied about was of the ilk: “bagpipes have severe limitations, and players make drastic alterations to tunes before they can play them…bagpipes are only heard in battle or at funerals, which is not where I want to be…The best advice is to give up the pipes and learn the harmonica…” Even I wouldn’t recommend the last one!
I suppose I should be used to prejudice, what with my instrument not-of-choice. Then again, there are others worse off - piano accordion and banjo players, and bodhran owners - oops, I mean bodhran PLAYERS
- anyway, back to the fray now - some guy needs straightening out about “pennywhistles” (sic). I’ll send him over here I think.
