NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Bluegrass singer Ralph Stanley will undergo coronary bypass surgery Monday. Doctors recommended the multiple bypass operation after the 78-year-old singer went for a regular checkup earlier this week, according to a statement from his publicist. A full recovery is expected, the statement said.

I heard him interviewed on the radio some time ago, and in addition to his great musicianship he sure sounded like a nice man. I hope for the very best for him and his family.
I was listening to a local community college radio station this morning, and they played a version of “Man of Constant Sorrow” sung by Ralph Stanley, but rather than the usual old-time/bluegrass instruments, the accompaniment was improvisational jazz, with piano, snare drums, the works. Ugh. Some genre crossovers just don’t work.
