While practicing a collection of tunes in order to prepare for a recent camping trip (Cheaha Mountain, AL; great camping area), I stumbled onto a couple of things that have helped me. I thought that I would offer them as tips:
-
Practice a tune several times through (3-4). I had never done this seriously before. I learned that usually by the 3rd time through the tune my fingers would start to go wonky on me, and I learned that my breathing and endurance needed work.
-
Practice sets (2-4 tunes). I had not done this type of practicing either. I learned that I was not too good at switching rhythms and/or tempo from tune to tune and, again, that my breathing and endurance needed work.
So, both of these practice techniques helped me with breathing, endurance, and rhythm/tempo changes. YMMV.
