I have only played one Michael Vignoles concert D chanter that belonged to a student of mine. After a few reed adjustments, it sounded and played well against my drones. The generic Rowsome wide bore reed design works well in it.

Reed design I tried in his chanter. My student ruined his reed and I never got paid or got my reed back for the reed that I had lent him or even heard from him again after his first lesson in reedmaking.

I think he shellacs in the reed binding and the reed into the reed seat as well as it took me much fiddling to remove the reed to adjust it’s height in the reed seat, so that may be a minor problem if he still does that.

Welcome to the dark side. Those darn pennywhistles really get you into trouble, don’t they? :smiling_imp:

if you are that new you need to do alot more research, including sitting with the archives of this board for a few hours.
to help you at all we need to know where you are, what else you play, if you will have a teacher, how much you can spend, how long you are willing to wait.. this is all important.
welcome

Basically try to find a maker near to you, ask if anyone in your area has a set of his or does he know of anyone in your area who can get you started with at least some basic lessons and stop you falling into bad habits
