Practice set for approx $500?

I’m interested in a practice set for $500 or less that’s not junk. Does such a thing exist? Perhaps this has already been answered many times, but I’ve been searching and haven’t been able to find it. Feel free to point me to a thread that already exists.

Cheers,

Beware Ebay and the dreaded Geoffrey and 'rish sets and instruments described as ‘made by pipers for pipers’

If buying from Ebay look for a recognosed pipemaker’s name and check this against the NPU pipemakers list or post for advice and opinions

Best of luck

A PS from Kenneth McNicholl will costs around 550£, from A. Rogge 640€.

Hi,

I would suggest spending enough to get a better quality chanter with key blocks.
You can add keys later when you can afford them.
Having the key blocks from the start will let your fingers get used to them before you progress to a set with keys. (I found it a bit different and had to teach my fingers slightly new positions)

I started with a Dixon chanter and a bellows and bag that I made.
This gave me a practice set for about $900.

I just purchased a used half set (O’ Grady) to begin using drones.
