I just recieved an email that had the subject line “sex” from the email address “thom@thewhistleshop.com” it had a zip file in it “britney.zip.” I don’t know if it contained a virus or not, but I deleted it instantly.
Just wanted to get the word out.

THE EMAIL IS MOST LIKELY NOT FROM THOM!!! You may wish to amend the subject so as not to single him out.
It looks to be the 6 month old Mabutu worm that infected a computer that had your email and thoms email addy and randomly used the whistleshop.com email addy and coincidentally sent it to you.
If you have your virus defs updated and your AV active, you shouldnt have any worries.
One of the newer tricks virus writers are using is to compress the virus into a zip file and then encrypt the file to prevent virus checkers from examining it. They enclose the password in the text of the message. If you unzip the file you get infected. Most people know that an exe or com extension can be a virus but get careless with a zip extension.
I got one like that at work with a subject “Received your fax”. Since I hadn’t sent a fax, I deleted the email and the attachment after alerting the IT dept.
Viruses spoof addresses all the time so unless you know to expect an attachment, be suspicious.
I agree with this..chances are, someone who has ordered from Thom and has his email in their address book has the virus.
Ammend the who in the what now? I do not believe you can do that once the post has been replied to, unless you have administrative right. I am not implying that Thom sent the virus (or even if it was a virus) only that it was from his email address. The question is it was sent to my main ISP email address, which is not the email address i have registered with the website. I use msn.com and my secondary isp email address. As far as I know I haven’t had any corrospondance with thom using my primary. His email address was most likely spoofed from by someone who has corrospandance with him, and then used an “annonamailer” To send the virus, but that still doesn’t answer the question about why my main email address?? Anyone who knows anything about me knows I wouldn’t fall for such a newbie mistake. The file name is appealing (for a pervert)… but there isn’t a multimedia file worth anything that’s only 200KB

It’s not a matter of a “newbie mistake”…these things are automated within the virus itself. It’s not like someone researched you specifically and then sent you a virus via an “anonnamailer” to specifically taret you.
The way these things work: The virus hits someone. The virus then scans that person’s address book, and sends out a virus to everyone on it. It picks some other random address in the address book to put in each “From:” line. Some of them also pick random email addresses from your internet cache. So, chances are someone 3rd party that both knows your primary email, and has Thoms (or has surfed Thom’s site recently) is the culprit/victim.

The Newbie mistake I was refering to was opening an email with an attachment from someone I wasn’t expecting an email from. I don’t think Thom has ever emailed me so I suppose it’s possible that that the addresses were just randomly picked up somewhere. In that case that still doesn’t ansewer the question of why my main Isp email address. That’s the address I give to people I know…
Then clearly, someone you know has the virus 
I doubt any of my friends would have both my email address and Thom’s email address. Most of my friends tthink i’m weird for playin/making whistles. The virus couldn’t have picked it up from my cache or my address book because thom’s email isn’t in either… I keep my internet cache cleaned and i absolutely do not use Internet Exploder.
